Food borne Allergens can be tested using a number of methods. By far the most common form of Allergen testing uses ELISA kits. ELISA kits have been used for many years to test for a variety of allergens including: Gluten, Egg, Soy, Peanuts, Tree nuts, Milk. They can be used to detect the allergenic protein, or the specific biomarkers that are coexisting in the product. Unfortunately, the ELISA method is prone to interference from other ingredients in the product being tested for the Allergenic component.
At AgriGen, we utilise PCR techniques. as PCR can be used to test for allergens as an effective and more robust alternative to ELISA testing methods. PCR can be used when there are no ELISA kits available or the ELISA method has proven to be unreliable.
